About Dr. Koury
Dr. Koury is a board certified Colon and Rectal surgeon who is passionate about providing state of the art, compassionate and contemporary care for colorectal diseases. He specializes in minimally invasive and laparoscopic approaches to diseases of the colon and rectum. In addition to his general surgery residency and board certification, he has completed an advanced laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery fellowship at George Washington University as well as a colon and rectal surgery fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University. He has significant experience in complex emergent and elective surgical disorders of the gastrointestinal tract. He is an active surgical educator and investigator and has given multiple presentations at national surgical meetings. He is actively involved in resident physician education and is a fellow of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons where he serves on several educational committees.
Dr. Koury’s expertise includes the application of traditional open, laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery for the treatment of complex diverticulitis, colorectal cancer, rectal prolapse, inflammatory bowel disease, and colorectal polyps. He performs screening and diagnostic colonoscopy as well as advanced therapeutic colonoscopy with removal of difficult colon and rectal polyps. His special interests include minimally invasive approaches for colon cancer and diverticulitis including laparoscopic colon removal and laparoscopic colostomy reversal. He has presented his technique for laparoscopic colostomy reversal at national meetings including the American College of Surgeons annual Clinical Congress. He has also spoken and presented his surgical technique for laparoscopic colon removal for complex diverticulitis internationally at the International Society of University Colon and Rectal Surgeons meeting in London (2018).
